Fire-proof Fiberglass Doors

Comparing to high density woods

Some of the more high density woods are pretty fire-resistant. If you're motivated, you can apply a glass type coating to your wood door, which increases its fire-resistance. However, under high temperatures, such treatment will ultimately fail. After all, any surface treatment doesn't really do anything to protect the interior which is great fuel for a hot raging house fire.

Soaking

This is where soaking treatment can thoroughly fireproof wood. Soaking with ammonium, zinc and sodium salts have been shown to make wood truly fireproof. What about fiberglass doors? Fiberglass doors can be made fire-proof or fire-rated easily as glass has a high melting point, higher than that of certain kinds of woods. Moreover, these doors will remain fire-proof even after frequent exposure to elements such as moisture and relentless sun .

Layered resistance

Because fiberglass is a composite material, and the doors tend to be made of several layers, each part much be m ade fire-resistant or fire-proof. Attention must be given to the trims of the door to ensure these are also con sistent with fire-code.

Double configuration

Doors can come in a double configuration. Moreover, "side-lites" can be added to adorn the frame of the door.

Customizable

Depending on your home, your door can be customized to include a "transom" that runs over the top.

Robust to Weather

Regions with changeable climates that see wintry rain and snow can be ideal for non-wood doors.
